Fantastic toy. Ongoing fun for the kids. Challenging for a 5yr old so needed lot of help putting it together.
(5 stars) - Molecular space frames can be made with this set
The components of this set, which include dihedral, trihedral and compositable tetrahedral node pieces, among others, allow the user to construct molecular models. The joints are approximately 0.5 or 0.75 inch ball-socket connector pieces that can be selectively mounted on linear columnar components of varying lengths. The columns are well labeled with a number, and the set provides a lot of connectors, rather than just a few. It is possible to construct a 6 molecule model of ice (simulating van der Waals bonding), or a short strand of DNA, or a benzene ring. Because of the nature of the joints, the models demonstrate molecular deformation degrees of freedom, particularly if in larger scale models - this is a feature the more expensive professional sets dedicated to molecular modeling are not able to do. You will need additional sets (2 or 3 total) to construct large scale molecular models, particularly crystalline structures.

My son puts together this type of toy all the time with no problem but this one wasn't as easy as it seemed. The instructions were more difficult than others and it took quite a bit of time. Once it was together it did work and he loved playing with it.

Great building unit, however, three of the pieces broke within the first three hours of use which was frustrating for my 12 year old. One of the pieces was one of the main electronic parts. We were able to superglue it and the dinosaur was very cool when put together.

The Robotrixx appears to be a complex but fun toy... unfortunately, I purchased for my nephew's 6th birthday... the age recommendations on Amazon read age 6 and above... when I received the toy, the box recommmends an older age. This toy is more appropriate for a child age 9 and over. I was dissappointed my nephew could not immediately play with the toy unless an adult is there to build it for him.
