Product Details The Universal Swivel Holder tilts 180 horizontally and swivels a complete 360 left and right. The holder comes complete a flash mounting shoe, adapters to fit 3/8" or 5/8" studs or 1/4-20 screw thread and will also hold an umbrella. Precision metal casting.
Product Reviews (4 stars) - Value and flexibility, and value This is a great little umbrella adapter that makes entry into advanced lighting very painless. It offers all of the flexibility and adaptability one could hope for at a great price. The light metal shoe mount is threaded onto the 1/4" male stud, and the male and female studs are reversible with 1/4" and 3/8" threads. The longer lever in the product image controls the tilt and can operate like a ratchet in case your lighting rig is in the way somehow.
The weakness in the design is the plastic screw and fine, shallow threads for the umbrella holder (all other threads are metal). This screw could be over-tightened, stripping the threads in the swivel bracket. Be careful and you're okay--my umbrella hasn't exactly fallen out of the bracket yet! The overall build is acceptable. Considering the cost of most photographic equipment, at this price the build is exceptional. I wonder just how much better a more expensive bracket can be.
For Minolta/Sony users, the removable shoe mount covers up what we need, the 1/4" thread, so we can simply remove it and attach whatever we like; the stands that come with our flashes, or the Sony FACS1AM Off-Camera Shoe for Sony Alpha Digital SLR Camera Flashes.
I recommend this swivel bracket for anybody getting into off-camera lighting. For a sturdy kit with maximum versatility and minimum expense, I recommend pairing this bracket with the Adorama 40" White Interior Umbrella with Removeable Black Cover.
(3 stars) - Hot shoe holder The hot shoe holder needs some design work. The holder set screw is not in a location to secure the flash. The flash I am referring to is the Nikon SB600 & SB800 The rest of the unit works fine and other types of flash units might work out fine.
(5 stars) - Simple and inexpensive, but does the job This is the simple holder that can be used for your strobes. I have couple of them and never had any problem with them. Adorama have the lowest price for such things.
(2 stars) - a hit--and a miss! I ordered one of these last summer and it worked okay. It allowed me to put my Nikon SB-600 onto my little umbrella stand. just what I wanted. The little metal shoe wasn't any too snug, but it worked.
I ordered the exact same item a couple of weeks ago and guess what? The shoe don't fit. Not even close. I've been reduced to using the flat plastic table-mount thingy that came with the flash to attach it to the bracket. The little aluminum shoe is way too big to hold the flash securely.
Yes, I emailed adorama. No response. If you have any doubts about cheaping out and getting this item versus paying double to get a more ruggedly made one, my advice is: go with the more expensive option. This one has been hit or miss for me.
(4 stars) - Good holders These are my first swivel holders and I'm almost happy with them (all four). One thing that I did not like was that you can't adjust the umbrella you attach with in the vertical axis. For example, you can't tilt the umbrella up or down. But other than that, everything holds on tight and I'm happy with that. Thank you!
