(1 stars) - You get what you pay for, I suppose.
Let me be blunt: the sound quality on these headphones is horrible. I'm not an audiophile. I don't have high standards. Imagine holding your ear to the door of a room where someone is playing a stereo way too loud. That's what these headphones sound like. No treble. No bass. Just a garbled midrange that makes even the clearest lyrics impossible to understand. If you're listening through a computer, you can EQ these to death and make them sound decent. But on an mp3 player? Not a chance.

Oh and also be forewarned: TURN THE VOLUME DOWN. These things will do permanent hearing damage above about 25% volume on my MacBook or iPod. They're far more sensitive than stock iPod earbuds (or any other earbuds I've ever tried, for that matter).

Outside of audio quality issues, I suppose they aren't bad. They seem pretty sturdy and the carrying pouch is nice. They have a reasonably snug fit. The short left/long right cord design could be handy (heaven forbid you actually want to carry your mp3 player in your right pocket, though). Can't really speak to long-term comfort... the sound quality makes me want to rip the things out of my ears within seconds every time I try them.

I've bought a eight of these so far, a set every three months or thereabouts. You see, I'm really hard on these, wearing them sometimes even though I'm not listening to music because they deaden the noise around me. They're inexpensive, comfortable and have a deep, clear sound that, from disappointed experience, more expensive in-ear headphones can't match. The set I currently use have an intermittently broken wire in one of the ear buds, so I went to WalMart to buy a replacement. They no longer stock the Philips units so I bought the JVC Marshmallow in-ear set. What a difference! I'd been listening to an audiobook about WWII, and upon donning the JVC set, it sounded like I'd gone back in time and was listening to vintage radio. Tinny tone, poor volume, poor fit: it was so bad that I took them off after a few minutes and put the worn out Philips set back on!

I don't care if the frequency range is 16 - 22k, the output is terrible. Certain parts of the music are amplified too loud, while other parts are hard to hear. Warning: these will cause damage to your hearing.

(2 stars) - Won't Stay In Ears!
If you plan to run with these, don't buy them! They will not stay in and you will consistently be sticking them back in your ear and readjusting them. Worst run EVER! Honestly, don't waste your money. I gave mine to my girl friend who (don't tell her I said this) has HUGE ears and they fall out on her too when running. She now uses them to listen to class lectures on her laptop while I am watching tv. I'm sure if you're like most Americans and don't plan to run or jog they will be just fine for you.

These cans are not that bad, its just that the little plastic ear parts are to big for my ear holes. I had read some of the other reviews that said these headphones had that problem. I just thought that maybe that was just their problem. But I wanted to give them a try anyway. Big mistake. Try them at your own risk:(
