Product Reviews (4 stars) - Extra content for an awesome RPG Oblivion has been in market circulation for a couple of years now however for those of you who are new to RPGs or the Elder Scrolls series then this addon to Oblivion is great in the sense that it adds additional items, areas & quests to an already huge gaming world.
The addon is actually several different modules allowing you to skip installation of modules that are not to your playing style, for example you wouldnt want a vampire den if your a crusading knight although this does add some role playing options an example of this would be what terrible secret does your holy knight harbor for him to own a vampire den!??.
Make sure you do install the latest patch for this game followed by the unofficial official mods community patch to make Oblivion as smooth and bug free as possible. This addon pack for the sale price is now reasonable as it is a bit short although many of the modules add to the existing gaming world (so changes are not so apparent and dramatic).
Ensure if your purchasing this along with Oblivion that you have a computer that is at least a 2.8GHZ single core Pentium 4 (or 2.2GHZ dual core) CPU with 256mb (Nvidia 6600GT/6800 or ATI equivalent) video ram & 2GB ram to smoothly run this game that continues to set the standards for RPGs.
(5 stars) - Crazy Fun This game is quite fun. It seems to be 20-30 hours of extra game time depending on how fast you want to get through it. The area is split into sides, dementia (dark, gloomy, depressed) and mania (bright, colorful, and creative) and you have many game opportunities to show allegiance to one side or the other and depending on your choices the inhabitants of each side will act (slightly) different to you.
Areas improved:
+ Voice Acting: The voice acting is more diverse than the last game, which seemed to have one voice for all male Orcs, one voice for all female Argonians, one voice for all male Brentons, ect. While there is was still a problem with diversity of voices I definitely noticed there was progress.
+ More this or that choices: In Oblivion IV there was A LOT to do, but it seemed to me there was really only one way to do most of it. You always had to get from point A to point B, and you could vary your path but in the end whether you were a warrior, a sneak or a mage you all ended up hitting the same points. In this expansion you have the opportunity several times to pick sides, and while no major changes would take place you would see things change based on your choices.
Areas inferior:
- Storage: While in Oblivion you had many places to store your excess wealth I have been unable to find a way to acquire a house in this expansion. My character is a female sneak thief and cannot carry a large amount of swag. At a certain point in the game you have access to storage (I would be more specific but I don't want to spoil anyone's fun) but it will be past a point were even a strong warrior type player will have to choose to drop some unique items. For most players this probably wont be a problem, but I am a bit of a collector within the game and have been trying to collect every unique item in the game, so to have to choose what to go on without is really annoying for me.
- Travel: You can't bring in a horse. There are no horses in the new land to buy or steal, prepare to walk everywhere. This is made more annoying than it has to be because there are many, many slopes that you just cannot get up and you will have to travel the length of the island to find a place where a road cuts up it. A master of acrobatics won't have this problem and will be able to hop right up the slope, but few of us are. The unscalable slopes are made even more annoying when you realize if you had a horse you could get up them.
Overall I am glad I bought this game. Great plot, fun characters, great dialog, and really neat new items. I highly recommend it. One thing I would say is take your time and look at everything. I just happened to get off the trail at one point and came across an execution square, hidden among the skeletons and bodies there was a note that explained the area (and made me laugh out loud too!). I am certain there are still many areas I have not found yet, and this kind of depth in an expansion is amazing!
(5 stars) - More Expansion Fun! This add-on is indeed terrific fun. There are so many more facets to the World of Oblivion to explore, and this is simply one of them. The quests herein blend wonderfully with the usual Oblivion Quests. Some of the quests don't really do more than give you more than another place to stay or store your stuff, but they're still cool. But other quests add hours of Monster killing action. It was worth the money, especially here on Amazon.
(5 stars) - Terrific set of add-ons The Knights of the Nine CD collection is an excellent addition to anyone's Oblivion game. There are a few subtle gameplay tweaks (such as the Spell Tomes), while others are great quest addons (such as Mehrune's Razor), and the Knights of the Nine itself is a wonderful added faction with a compelling storyline. I would recommend anyone considering downloading the addons to Oblivion to instead simply buy this disc--there is none of the hassle of Bethesda's registering process--which doesn't work on many computers without tweaking, and which doesn't work on Windows Vista at all. There is also no restriction for installing or reinstalling this software as many times as you like on your computer, which is a great bonus for me. After switching from Desktop to Laptop, having some installation/activation issues and getting a new hard drive, it was going to be impossible for me to activate the DLC's I already owned, so I instead opted to simply buy this CD. I definitely don't regret it.
(4 stars) - Should Have Waited... This is an add-on to Oblivion. It adds only a few hours of game play, but is interesting and somewhat fresh. I paid full price when it first came out though, so wish I would have waited for discount. Other than that, if you are a fan of Oblivion, this is a must have.
