Product Reviews

(5 stars) - Surprisingly fast, and extremely tiny!
I bought the Sony Micro Vault Tiny 4GB without doing any research, but was very pleasantly surprised with its speed. My original intent was to use the Micro Vault to install Ubuntu on a laptop without a DVD-ROM, but while copying some files onto the Micro Vault, I noticed that it was much faster than I had expected. In fact, fast enough that I created and now run an Ubuntu virtual machine on it instead. I did not do any exact speed measurements, but I also have a Corsair Voyager USB drive (which is no slouch itself) and can definitely say that this Sony is noticeably quicker! The only real drawback with the Sony Micro Vault Tiny for me is that it seems like it could be damaged more easily than other larger drives. It does come with a small silicon rubber holder/protector, but because this drive is so small, I can usually fit it into my card case or coin pocket, with no damage to the connector yet.

(5 stars) - A USB port's best friend
In my experience the USB port is way under-engineered. They get really sressed by the flexing of a long device sticking out or by cables that pull down or get tugged this way and that. I have found that afer awhile the USB ports in the computer start getting really finicky or stop working altogether. In fact I bet the reviewers who had connection problems with the Tiny Vault already had degraded ports.

The Tiny Vault is the perfect answer at least when it comes to flash drives. They are so tiny, so light, and protrude so little that my USB port degradation rate has gone to essentially zero.

Someone said they wished there were more color choices. That would be nice, but each size drive has a different color so at least the size can be easily identified when you're grabbing one. (Henry Ford said his customers could have any color car they wanted...as long as it was black.)

What makes the Tiny Vault so, well, tiny, is that it does not have a case and it does not have the protective metal sleeve around the actual connectors. If you want something to put on your keychain you might better go with a conventional flash drive. But why do you want a big, clunky thing on your keychain? You can slip this little puppy unobtrusively into your wallet. In fact several together take up no more room than a single credit card. Someone should invent a credit-card-like holder for them.

I've used these daily for almost two years and have never had any problems at all. I highly recommend them.

(4 stars) - Really Tiny
If your are looking for a really tiny flash drive this is it.

Mine has work great mos t of the time except for a couple of times when the PC cannot recognize the the flash drive but I think the problem is the usb port.

The only downside is the color but tht really dosen't matter.

(1 stars) - Not actually 4 gigabytes
This is a 2 GB drive with fancy compression software. Don't waste your money.

Once the (Windows) compression program is deleted, it will only hold files as large as 2 Gigabytes, even though it still reports that it can hold 4 GBs, even after being reformatted. I discovered this by attempting to copy a 3 GB file--it consistently failed after copying 2 GBs.

What a waste! I returned mine.

(1 stars) - Sony mis-reporting drive capacity
Sony thinks that by using compression technology they can make you think that you're buying more "gigabytes" than they really deliver. If you buy ANY drive half this size and "zip" or "compress" a file before you put it on there, you might be able to squeeze double its capacity on there. So, do that. Don't buy these drives, you're overpaying for the capacity that you get.
