Product Reviews (4 stars) - Good book for guys We purchased this book for my husband and he has enjoyed reading about how to "survive" his upcoming role as dad. Its informative and has a slight humor to it. Definitely geared towards men, and it gives a great insight from a mans point of view on being a first time father. Good buy.
(5 stars) - Excellent Product; item delivered fast! Great experience! The item was exactly as described and the shipping was much faster than anticipated; great seller!
(5 stars) - BCFs I just finished reading this cover to cover in about 2
days.
While there wasn't a lot of new information (as we're taking classes up the wazoo), I truly appreciated the tone. Too much of the birth and after birth learning processes seems to be on all the things that can go wrong and they all seem repressively instrumented to scare the beejeesus out of anyone who wants kids.
Men just really need to know what will work and what to fuggetabout. This
book is empowering -- much like Bruce Campbell in Army of Darkness where even faked over-confidence was enough to get him through the worst situations -- the impending attack of the medieval undead for golly sakes. I now feel at least equally and falsely over-confident in myself and the proper way to coach this NFU out and add her to the world. Fake it until you make it, as they say.
This book is a great pep talk and a good buddy to have. It would have made a cool comic book.
(3 stars) - The Father's Role I find it very heartening that more and more fathers are taking an interest in parenting. When my wife became pregnant in the late 1970's, it was very rare for fathers to be involved and it was discouraged by many obstetricians. I was only allowed into the birth room at the very last moment and kept well away from the "action". My own involvement resulted in doing two books on fathers (long out of print and now irrelevant).
However, it is quite encouraging to see the extent to which men are embracing fatherhood and are becoming so active in the entire process. The more books on the topic the better and this book does fill a need and does so with humor. Some of the advice like how to prepare formula on page 61, however, is pretty standard fare though and the book is limited in only dealing with the period of birth through the first three months.
I personally found the newer book The Dysfunctional Father's Guide to Pregnancy Birth and Babies to be much more amusing and realistic. It deals with the period from planning to get pregnant to the first birthday. I loved the illustrations

(3 stars) - A Bit Over the Top, It just Didn't work Out I really wanted to like the book. I think it appeals to a slightly older generation. The book is sort of like a military guide/survivalist guide. There is definitely humor in it, but I didn't find it funny. There are all sorts of survival tips, but it was too demeaning for me to really like it. If you like sort of the macho man, military style, you'll love this book. It just didn't appeal to me.
