Black & Decker HH2450 Hedge Hog 24-Inch 3.3-AMP Electric Dual Action Hedge Trimmer

Product Details

The Black & Decker Hedge Hog HH2450 Electric Hedge Trimmer is a precise, well-balanced tool that's up to the task of keeping hedges and shrubbery neatly groomed. This trimmer features dual-action blades that provide fast cutting with reduced vibration for increased user comfort, and these blades are crafted from pre-hardened steel for superior durability, so you can feel comfortable slicing through branches up to 3/4-inch in diameter. Additionally, the extended reach provided by these 24-inch blades allows you to shape larger bushes safely. Behind the cutting power of this hedge trimmer is a powerful 3.3 Amp inline motor that delivers 2,900 strokes per minute. Lightweight at just 6.2 pounds and offering a wrap-around bale handle with a soft grip and intuitively placed trigger, this tool is designed to keep you comfortable and in full control. The HH2450 also offers a lock-on switch, a lock-off switch, and a built-in cord retention system that prevents your extension cord from coming unplugged as you work. Plus with corded power, you never have to worry about tricky pull starts, mixing gas and oil, or dead batteries. This tool is backed by a 2-year warranty.

Product Reviews

(5 stars) - Great Gift for Dads
I bought the Hedge Hog for my dad last Christmas, and he loved it even more than I was expecting him to. He has told me how well it works, and how much he enjoys using it. He has quite a bit of landscaping to do with many bushes in the yard, and they have never looked better now that he has the Hedge Hog.

(2 stars) - Good for thicker branches but poor for finer trimming
I've used Black & Decker hedge trimmers for decades and always felt they were well built, economically priced and performed well. However I am fairly disappointed with this HedgeHog model. While it trims thicker branches (1/8"+) nicely, the blade does not seem to be designed for the fine feather and needle covering of a typical evergreen hedge. I found that the blade was fairly slow in cutting this material and rather than a nice crisp cut, it tended to 'yank' the needles off and leave a short length of fine white fiber behind. Almost seems as though the blade is dull, but in this case it's a new unit.

I have discussed this trimmer in more detail with a professional who agreed that it is not really designed for cutting the fine material on yews, etc. He said the gap between the teeth allows for cutting larger branches more efficiently but reduces the sharpness of cut for finer material. He said that B&D makes trimmers with tighter tooth configurations which seem to work much better on the fine stuff. That makes sense to me, although I think B&D should be a little more clear in how they describe the Hedge Hog, it's really more of a small-brush cutter rather than a hedge trimmer. It also works well for cutting back hydrangeas, etc. that have twig-like growth.

(5 stars) - Black and Decker Hedgehog trimmer 23'
Waited too long to buy this. Saves hours of hand trimming. Does a great job with lots of power. Electric is good way to go.
Cuts branches about half inch thick but should probably stick to smaller ones. All in all a great tool.

(4 stars) - Black and Decker Hedge Hog trimmer 24 inch
Good trimmer for the money. Like the pigtale plug in, cord does not come out, like the long blade, a bit heavey. Doesn't seem to have a lock on the trigger, so you have to use two hands which can limit you when you need to make a cut while reaching.

(5 stars) - It's powerful!
This is the third electric hedge trimmer I have bought in the last 38 years. My first was a smaller Black and Decker that gave good service. When it wore out I got a Ryobi from Home Depot that didn't last nearly as long. But this new Black and Decker is much more powerful. It cuts right through thick branches on the shrubbery. It doesn't jam. I selected it based on the good performance of my son's HedgeHog electric string trimmer. I am very well pleased and highly recommend this hedge trimmer.

It sure beats a pair of hand shears.
