Product Reviews (4 stars) - No More Freeze and Bake Cycles In my house in winter, we save money with programmable thermostats to keep the whole house cold while using space heaters to keep the children warm. Our space heaters are DeLonghi HHP1500 Mica Panel Radiators; I have two and in general I've been happy with them in terms of rapidity of heating and more importantly in being quiet. However, it's hard keeping track of what setting to use for a comfortable room; and oftentimes I'll come into a child's room and it is either really cold or really hot. Obviously, I could take more care in selecting a dial setting, but that's a lot of futzing I'd rather not have under manual control.
Thus my purchase of this device. I set it up to keep the bedroom a nice moderate temperature during sleeping hours and just keep the room from getting cold all other times. It has markedly improved the comfort level of the bedroom; whenever I go in there at night, it's a nice comfy 73F. I don't have to worry about turning off the space heater in the morning; I don't have to worry about my child dehydrating like it was summer in Phoenix. The device handles it for me.
Not that it is perfect. It would be nice if it had a temporary override for when you go to sleep earlier than normal. And it's shape is a bit awkward for keeping on a table with the extension cord coming out one end and the space heater cord coming out the other. And if you mount it at a receptacle, it's difficult to not block the other socket.
Still, I'm satisfied with it on the whole, and will be buying a second for the other bedroom presently.
(5 stars) - Well regulated heat Our 50's style ranch has a 4 degree temperature varience from one end to the other, and of course the cold side is where the kids bedrooms are. With this thermostat on space heaters in their rooms they can be warm enough at night and comfortable during the day. It's helped us reclaim those rooms as a useful part of the house by not behind the heat curve by turning on the heater when we want to use the rooms and waiting for it to be the right temperature. The programming was easy, just like the house thermostat.
(3 stars) - Cheaply made Well I bought this to control a 400W IR heater that I placed up high in my sons room so he could not get to it. The relay in this thing welded shut the very first time it turned on. I am an electrical engineer so I just fixed it myself. The relay is a bit too small in my opinion, but it should not have had any problem with a 400W heater. I installed a larger relay and it has been working great ever since. The control part works really well but I suspect the relay will eventually go out even on one that works right.
(5 stars) - WIN100 Heating and Cooling Thermostat This is an excellent product. I have two of them now and rely on their accuracy.
(4 stars) - Not disappointed.... This thermostat/timer is almost exactly what I was hoping for. It functions as designed, however, not everyone's weekly schedule fits into weekdays and weekends. It would be ideal if it had more options to program more precisely, i.e., by day of the week rather than M-F and Saturday & Sunday together as some sort of traditional weekend. Many working people work irregular days of the week.
