(5 stars) - I finally found the eraser!
I've been having trouble with lesser pencils (especially a certain design whose claim to fame is having two clutches) breaking the leads into tiny pieces, so I willing to risk ~US$10+shipping for a chance to not be clicking incessantly during class, much less exams. So far, so good; I will probably buy more. I agree with most of the reviews, though comparisons to a Lamborghini might be a *bit* much!

So, I've been using this pencil for just a couple of days now, and the first thing I thought was "how odd that this really nice pencil doesn't include an eraser." As I revisited this page to review it, I noticed the product description says what sort of replacement eraser it takes.

To reveal the (very small) eraser, you must snap the cap onto the back end of the pencil, as when writing. This will make the silver button at the top of the cap extend. Pull this button out from the cap to reveal the eraser. Similarly the button of the top of the pencil body is removed to refill the leads. Might have been nice if they'd put little grooves in the cap's button as they did with the pencil's button to make it easier to remove.

I've owned a Pentel 5 that looks a lot like this for more than 25 years. It still works pretty well. This one feels a bit cheaper but still very nice. It has some weight and balance, holds plenty of lead, self feeds the leads, has a replaceable eraser and a cap that covers the tip when not in use. If you're looking for a better pencil at a fair price this is an excellent choice.

There are really only a few material things that are personal; that is, things you use every day and often and have with you all the time. Definitely a wrist watch, likely a ring, a wallet, and these days a cellphone. These personal items are usually chosen with care and must be first functional but also hopefully well designed and esthetically appealing. Not many people might include a mechanical pencil on a list of personal items, but if you have need of one often, whether to jot notes, sketch ideas or do your daily crossword puzzle, then you would do well to consider this Pentel. I read the gushing reviews others wrote before I made my purchase and although I appreciate the feel and balance of good writing instruments, for this price I admit I rolled my eyes and imagined maybe some Pentel production people might be trying to goose sales a little with some spam reviews. But I can't agree more with what everyone else has already written. The pencil is elegantly formal looking in black with a knurled metal midsection for grip. I have never liked the idea of any writing instrument that has a cap that must be removed and stuck on the back end in order to write. Inevitably it gets separated and lost and it's just plain inconvenient to do that dozens of times a day. This pentel has a wonderful design that keeps the two sections secure with a precision click together. When in use and the cover is moved to the back end it again has a precision click and remains there immovably. In fact, if you picked up the pencil opened like that you might not suspect it had a cover, it's that firmly attached and integrated. Also, the click button on the end of the cap integrates flawlessly to the advancing mechanism. The lead is held very securely and advances crisply. There is a small eraser under the advancer cap which could be larger and more robust, and although I thought that would be the spoiler, this pen is such an incredible value I can easily live with that. The weight and balance are superb and it is very easy to write with. If this pencil had the name Mont Blanc inscribed on it and a price tag 10 times what it is, I wouldn't think twice and would consider buying it. At this price it's an astounding value. After a day I sent for a second one and now might buy a few more just in case they discontinue them. With free shipping and no tax, this is a complete no brainer. If you use a mechanical pencil often, you'll want to own this one added to your personal items for everyday use.

(5 stars) - Classic, sturdy design -- the best pencil there is
I agree with all the good stuff that has been said by previous reviewers. This is an excellent product. And the good news is that Pentel has been making them just the same for at least the past 18 years--I still have my first one. I once broke or lost a piece of it (either the tip or the little cap that goes over the eraser, can't remember now), and called Pentel to order a new one. They mailed me one for free, and quickly, too. You just can't beat this pencil for excellent quality at a fair price.

This is a great mechanical pencil. Solidly constructed it feels nicely balanced in your hand. The removable cap is a nice touch and protects the writing end when not in use. It writes smoothly and looks great! Simply awesome mechanical pencil.
