Sanus Systems Adjustable Satellite Speaker Hover Foundation Stands (pair)

Product Details

The proper positioning of home theater satellite speakers is not as obvious as it seems. While many people enjoy sound reproduced from speakers at ear level, the correct positioning, according to Dolby Laboratories, is actually several feet above ear level. Enter Hover Foundations. These heavy duty cast iron and steel speaker stands are the first ever that meet the placement guidelines of Dolby Laboratories. And they do so with rugged construction designed to hold speakers up to 10 lbs., and include features like adjustable height and a concealed wire management path. Get ready to hear what Dolby Digital sound really sounds like.

Product Reviews

(4 stars) - Not for Small Rooms or Small Speakers.
I am returning the stands to Amazon, because I cannot SECURELY attach my Energy Take Classic speakers to them using the parts provided and they are too large for our small room. If your speaker's mounting thread is more than 3 inches from the bottom of the speaker, you should probably purchase a different stand. You can use the base plate mount, but I didn't feel that it was secure enough and it virtually eliminates using the bent pole configuration. Don't get me wrong, these are quality stands that are made for a larger speaker. If your speaker fits, you should try them. Keep in mind, that the poles are large. They are sturdy but overpowered our small 13'x18'room. If it hadn't been for that, I probably would have rigged additional parts to make them work.

(5 stars) - Sansus System Hover Speaker Foundation
Heavy duty, easy to assemble. Purchased on line, saved $20, free shipping too. Would definately recommend if considering for surround sound speakers.

(3 stars) - Nice, but...
These are really very sturdy stands - with loads of installation options and a durable finish. They are just a bit too sturdy and durable for my living room. I'm wishing I would have researched options a bit more. That said, given the quality of what I purchased (Sanus HF1-B1), I'll definitely look at Sanus stands when it comes time to replace these...

(4 stars) - Good Stands, But Not Good for ProMonitor 800s
I bought 4 of these for my front L/R and rear surround L/R ProMonitor 800 speakers and although the Sanus Hover Foundation speaker stands comes with a plethora of attachment components, none of them are directly compatible with the Definitive Technology ProMonitor 800 speakers. The main problem lies with the ProMonitor 800s' curved bottom. DefTech is a reputable brand and I believe the curved speaker design is to eliminate any problems with internal standing waves. Unfortunately, that means they also eliminated immediate speaker stand compatibility with most brands.

I ended up keeping the DefTech tripod stands on and attaching the back of the speakers to the Sanus stands using the L-shaped bracket. I was hoping the large square bracket would work, but it was slightly too small (and ugly anyway) to fit the DefTech tripod. It takes some tweaking to get the speaker to be level with the L bracket, but it seems to work and are sturdy enough. The rear support on the tripod sits on the L bracket to provide a little more support.

The Sanus stand itself has an okay looking powder metal finish. I didn't notice any imperfections with the finish. I prefer a smooth metal finish. Also, if you don't care to use the cable management hole, you can get the stand to go down to 34", which helps bring the front speakers more down to ear level. I did have a slight problem with some of the rubber feet (for non-carpet set up) not going in easily. I even had to take out a knife and pare down one of them. I find using a twisting motion while pushing in (like putting in a screw) helps getting them in. The base is strong and heavy like others have mentioned. The other Sanus model (european?) that has a tripod looking base looks a lot better, but it didn't have the 60" full extension, so it was a trade-off for me.

This set of stands looks and works fine. I was disappointed with the lack of direct compatibility with the ProMonitor 800s, but I was able to work around it. Based on less than desirable aesthetics and some minor issues getting the stands to work I prefer to give this pair of stands 3.5/5, but I can't, so I'm giving this item a 4 with the above exceptions.

(5 stars) - Great set of stands!
These are a great set of stands, and I couldn't be happier with them. I used these for a set of Energy Take 5 rear speakers. They look great, come with about every possible speaker mounting bracket, and are sturdy on carpets to boot. I was able to run my speaker wire up the posts as well, which cleans everything up nice. I found the trick to be that you should keep the extension at its lowest, run the wire, then extend to height with the wire pulled. The directions say to extend the post first, but I found the wire gets caught on the bottom edge of the post. The only thing I could ask for would be black screws to match the stands & brackets. Luckily my speakers came with black screws that worked just fine.
