Whats Up, Doc?

Product Details

Director Peter Bogdanovich (The Last Picture Show) tipped his hat to the classic screwball comedies of the 1930s, and especially the most glorious of them all, Howard Hawks' Bringing Up Baby. Barbra Streisand plays a charming flake who distracts a self-absorbed musicologist (Ryan O'Neal). He's engaged to be married, but soon Streisand's character has him chasing after stolen jewelry and getting into one madcap fix after another. Bogdanovich, who is also a film critic, understands the engine of the screwball genre, and his loving revival of the form brings a smile, though it is not quite consistently inspired or funny. There are plenty of great moments, however, including a slap at O'Neal's own star-making vehicle, Love Story. --Tom Keogh

Product Reviews

(5 stars) - funny movie!
Watched this movie as an older kid. It's a great "have fun" movie to watch when you're in a goofy mood!

(5 stars) - Great Deal
This movie always was a classic and the extra features such as the commentary give a it a whole new element.

(5 stars) - This is a super funny movie that is full of great "one-liners" We can watch it over and over!
I would suggest that everyone see's this movie! I got it as a gift for my sister-in-law because she saw mine and wanted one. I was so glad that I could get it from Amazon.com for so cheep, and in such a short amount of time. If your looking for a "classic" to add to your library, try this movie out. It's worth the money! Even if you aren't a big Barbra fan, this movie just keeps you laughing, no matter how many times you've seen it. We love this movie!

(5 stars) - Madcap at its finest
I first saw "What's Up Doc?" in the movie theater with my cousins when I was ten. We were over cartoon "Peanuts" movies, and this was a great transition. All these years later, it holds up! The patter is lightning fast, Barbra Joan and Madeline Kahn are terrific, and the ancillary characters are a hoot. I bought this for myself, but my 8-year old daughter ended up watching it and loving it,too. This is one you'll come back to over and over, just to make sure you get all the laughs.

(5 stars) - Timeless comedy classic
What's Up Doc is a timeless comedy classic that shows Ryan O'Neal and Barbra Streisand at their funny best. If you like to laugh and appreciate good gags, this movie is a good one to have and watch. The late, great Madeline Kahn makes her feature film debut in this movie and her performance is priceless as well. The entire movie builds up to the final scene where O'Neal utters his absolutely perfect final line, but you have to know a little movie history and be familiar with his work to get it. No spoilers here - you will have to get a copy and watch, and enjoy! Good clean family fun.
