Product Details I remember the first time I saw Kenny Rankin. He opened for the Manhattan Transfer. He sat on a stool in the center of the huge stage and sang his versions of the Beatles. Well I was never a Beatles fan, but I loved the way he sang their songs. WOW I was an instant fan. Went out and bought everything I could find. The last several years I sorta lost track of Kenny, I saw this cd and bought it. I am a fan all over again. His way with a song is like no other. His version of Where Do You Start is pure wonder,When the Sun Comes Out has a bossa nova feel and Round Midnight is a classic all over again. I always like Carmen McRae's version of He Was Too Good For Me, but Kennys has now taken its place. A slow romantic version of Spanish Harlem is a masterpiece but wait until you listen to I've Just Seen a Face, WOW. If there is a bummer on this cd it is A Song For You. I guess I never really liked this song anyway, he makes the most of it but the other nine songs are all exceptional. Buy this CD and you will love it too, I'm willing to take a bet:)

(5 stars) - A Song For You, Kenny Rankin It's hard to believe that Kenny Rankin is no longer with us to record more remarkable music for his fans to enjoy. This review comes with my heartfelt sympathy to his family. My heart goes out to them and my prayers as well as I join the music world in mourning the loss of such an incredible talent.
"To everything there is a season
And a time for every purpose under the Heaven
A time to be born, and a time to die" ~ Ecclesiastes 3:1,2 ~
When I've read the news about his death, I pulled out some of my Kenny Rankin CDs and started listening. Once again, I marvel at his distinctively amazing singing style that is full of ingenious improvisations. He had an innate ability to interpret music in his own special flair that makes it quite impressive. And this inviting album, "A Song For You" is a perfect testament of his unparalleled creativity. He was one of the most underrated musicians, but to his appreciative fans, he was a picture of a brilliant artist who can sing, write songs, compose music and play musical instruments -- a true indication of a cultured, artistic and talented person. His music has inspired me, touched my heart and moved my musical sensibilities.
I have enjoyed this album time and again as well as his other beautiful recordings: "The Kenny Rankin Album," "After The Roses," "Because of You," "Professional Dreamer," "Bottom Line Encore Collection" and "Haven't We Met?"
Backing him to make the material on this disc worthy to music lovers' listening pleasure include musicians who are among the finest in the industry -- names such as Alan Broadbent (arranger), Christian McBride (bass), Russell Malone (guitar), Lewis Nash (drums), David Spinozza (acoustic/electric guitar), Chris Potter (tenor sax), Roy Hargrove, Rick Baptiste and Warren Luening (trumpet), John Beasley (arranger/orchestrator) from among many others.
The most fascinating tracks from this set that truly bring out the best in him are the songs that moved me with their eternal charms - "Then I'll Be Tired Of You," "The Way You Look Tonight," "When The Sun Comes Out" and "Love Walked In."
At the end of the disc, Kenny Rankin allows the listeners to savor the mellower side of his vocal chords by singing the title track in his very own unique style. It is just the right song to wrap up your lovely and inspiring listening journey.

(4 stars) - Rest in Peace Kenny Rest in Peace Kenny....I was sadden to hear his passing from cancer.May god be with you and thanks for the great music. No doubt your last album will be huge.........Now for the review.Like most albums that he has crafted this one took a few listens and it does grow on you.The songs are mellow and stories are rich and sometimes colorful. The string arrangement is complex and jazzy background is something only Kenny could do.A rainy night stick this disc on and relax.A definate sipin brandy album for sure, but hey sets the mood.
(4 stars) - Dreamy I received my most recent Amazon purchase of Kenny Rankin's CD, "Song For You". I have, for years, been a huge fan of Mr. Rankin. My doctor plays his cds all the time and I don't mind the long wait because I'm in dream land listening to Kenny Rankin singing only for me!
