Product Details Doctor's choice for sealing out water and reducing noise. Mack'sŪ Pi
Product Reviews (1 stars) - Definitely not waterproof!!! These earplugs may muffle sound, but they don't keep water out of your ears in the shower. With all the effort involved, it's easier just to avoid the water without using these earplugs. Also, between softening them and molding them in your ears and then removing them without pulling your hair out, it takes at least twice as long to take a shower.
If you're looking for earplugs to keep water out of your ears (for ear infections, etc.), keep looking!
I would give them zero stars if I could. I tried several times, and they simply are not water tight.
(2 stars) - Affective, but potentially dangerous. I used these guys as an alternative to the foam kind hoping to get something that would be more effective in blocking sound. That they were. The plugs did a great job blocking sound and are also a smart idea for blocking water in a pool when swimming, another reason I picked them up. While I wouldn't say that they can NEVER be worn safely, I would NOT suggest using them as a sleeping aid.
I put them on the first night for the initial reason I purchased them; to block out the incessant barking coming from the next-door neighbor's full-sized standard poodle. The poodle did not wake me up that night. However the earplugs did, or rather the pain they were causing. The earplugs created a vacuum in my ear canal, causing a painful suction. This perpetuated an ear ache that lasted 2 full weeks. Whether it did irreparable harm to my hearing is yet to be seen but needless to say I won't be using them again.
If you do buy them, please use them with care.
(5 stars) - Mack's silicone earplugs gave me back rest and sanity Having a snoring partner and 4 cats (which love to yell once in a while at the door) and being a light sleeper, Mack's silicone earplugs gave me back proper night rest and sanity with that.
They have being doing that great job for me now for years.
The best way to insert them is to place them flat over the ear canal and then turn them while pressing. They'll then seal properly and not go inside the ear canal. If you press too much air in the ear canal (you'll feel the excess pressure) reopen seal in on corner a little bit to let air escape and reseal by turning again.
Normally you can use a pair of these earplugs 3 or 4 days, before they loose their 'stickiness'.
I tried foam, but it does not seal as well, comes loose too easily and requires risky deep penetration of the ear canal, causing damage or infections.
Oh, and my cats also love playing with the silicone Mack's and will even dig in the waste basket for them, so I make sure to hide them ........... :-)
(5 stars) - Suprisingly wonderful. I was amazed at how well these earplugs worked. For the first time I was able to sleep through the night without being constantly woken up by the loud snores of my boyfriend. As long as you wear these properly, surrounding noises will be greatly reduced. My only complaint about this product is that the plugs are kind of difficult and annoying to put in. Besides that, absolutely FABULOUS.
(4 stars) - Unlike the FOAM type, these WORK! I've used these for a few years now, and my wife recently started using them as well. We both love them. They allow us to sleep better than in years. I've read all the negative reviews and all I can say is that anyone who doesn't like them MUST be using them wrong. One reviewer even said that you SHOULD use them incorrectly -- bad idea! If you roll them into a pointed tube and stuff them into your ear canal SOME DAY when you're pulling them out one will come apart leaving part of itself deep in your ear canal -- and THAT will take a visit to the doctor to remedy. Use them properly and replace them when they are no longer "tacky" enough to work effectively and they will function just as advertised.
