Taylor Oven Guide Thermometer

Product Details

Most ovens, especially old ones, run hotter or colder than their set temperatures indicate. Rather than guessing how much to raise or lower the heat for a particular recipe, bake and roast with precision using a highly accurate oven thermometer like the Taylor Oven Guide. Made from durable, heavy-duty stainless steel, this mercury-free thermometer measures temperatures from 100 to 600 degrees Fahrenheit. The large, easy-to-read face also provides Celsius markings and a heating zone guide as well. Dishwasher-safe, this thermometer can hang in the oven or stand alone. It's NSF listed for food hygiene and safety. --Mary Park

Product Reviews

(2 stars) - Temperature markings wash off
As with many other reviewers here, mine had baked-on grease and when I washed it the numbers washed off. A thermometer is not very useful if you can't read it.

I bought it because of the Cooks Illustrated recommendation -- I guess that they never had to wash it off when they tested it. A big oversight on their part. I would choose a different thermometer.

(4 stars) - Works as it should
Not much to say other than it shows the temp and just hangs in the oven. Plain and simple. Don't scrub too hard or the printing becomes hard to see.

(5 stars) - Accurate!
Bought one a few years ago on recommendation of major cooking magazine. Love it; it's unfailingly accurate and easy to read. Just bought 2 more - one for my second home and one for daughter-in-law who bakes pastries and specialty cakes. She's always had to fiddle with her oven settings; now she knows just how 'off' her oven really is. Highly recommend this.

(3 stars) - Printed markings
It would have been nice to have the thing to have "contains no mercury" printed on the metal casing. It broke mine in my oven and I spent 20 minutes online looking up toxicity, clean up procedures and the like. Not fun and could have been prevented.

(5 stars) - Saved me some burned food.
I thought that my oven was off but as this was the first gas oven I've used at home I figured it was just a fast oven. Little did I know that my oven settings were 50 degrees off. When I set the temp. at 400 degrees it was really 450 degrees. So thank you Taylor and I'm getting my oven adjusted by the Gas company.
