| Jorgensen 41012 Woodworkers Vise |

Product Details This heavy-duty woodworker's vise from Jorgensen features a solid-steel dog in the front jaw which, when used in conjunction with a bench stop, allows oversized work to be held securely on the bench top. The machined toed-in jaw provides a solid grip, while northern hardwood handles provide balance and comfort. The front and back jaws have holes drilled in them to allow for optional wood facings (not included). This vise will easily fit any bench up to three-inches thick. Jaw size: 3-1/2 by 10 inches, with 12-inch maximum opening capacity. For a smaller version of the same vise, see Jorgensen's model #40709A.--Josh DettweilerWhat's in the Box Vise, wood handle
Product Reviews (5 stars) - Outstanding muscle with a delicate touch I've owned this vise for over six months and use it regularly. It is a very powerful vise, but works more like a precision instrument. It has an excellent quick release feature that allows you to quickly move the front face forward or backward to the approximate location you need, and with a few turns of the handle gentley but powerfully clamp an item.
It has a built-in steel benchdog which is rock-solid. The fit and finish of my vise was first-rate. I had no problems with the wooden handles. In fact, the ergonomics and warmth of wood handles over metal are a nice feature of this vise that I wouldn't want to do without. The slight toe angle of the front and back faces are just right for a vise of this mass.
Best of all, this vise is manufactured right here in America. Whatever problems existed in the past with poor fit and finish and alignment, they seemed to be worked out quite nicely. I have no reservations recommending this vise to anyone looking for a quality vise that can outlast several generations. Its American manufacturing the way it was meant to be.
(5 stars) - Jorgenson woodworking vise I was a little concerned considering the vise was poorly packed in its box and after reading past reviews about this product. But the vise was ok and is now mounted to my bench doing quite well...
(5 stars) - Nice! Nice Vice. Fast delivery. Did not come with installation instructions but I figured it out with out too much trouble.
(4 stars) - Keep the vise... throw away the template The Jorgensen 10" woodworking vise is a solidly made tool. The castings are of generally good quality with smooth, unwarped surfaces and free of cracks and defects. I set it up fairly quickly and fashioned a set of maple jaws to cover the metal surfaces and protect my work. The rapid release mechanism works very well, and the action is very smooth and relatively free of slop.
A few minor gripes, well maybe not so minor. The provided template was off by at least 1/8" on the front screw placement. This is very annoying when you think you have it all set to mount, you hoist the VERY HEAVY vise up against your bench, and the screw holes don't line up. I found it easier to remove the cotter pin, disassemble the vise, and use the actual yoke to establish the screw locations.
Also, all the bearing, machined surfaces on the vise, including the face plates, the rods and the main screw shaft, are covered with a thin, oily, anti-rust material which is black, and gets all over everything. I know this is probably necessary, but does it need to be BLACK?
All-in-all, a good product.
(1 stars) - Useless I purchased this vise when my trusty old Record finally died. Since I have quite a few tools made by Adjustable Clamp Co. (Jorgensen, Pony etc) which are great ,I figured this vise would be in the same league-WRONG!! Problems started from day 1. I was sure it was an optical illusion that the jaws seemed so misaligned and out of square and that a good installation would correct any percieved malady- WRONG AGAIN! The machining was so poor on this unit I had to shim both jaws to get this thing to clamp anything parallel. Acme screw was machined by a gorilla. The quick release is anything but unless you like fiddling around for the "sweet spot". Another wonderful feature of this baby is that caps on the handle love to fall off at the worst time. I finally got so irritated with them that I screwed them on and of course over time the cap split so I replaced it w/ a pipe.
I 'm sorry I waited so long to install this 'cause otherwise I would've returned it. Pretty much a boat anchor at this point. Boy do I miss my old Record.
