Product Reviews (3 stars) - Great recipes but bad nutrition advice I checked out this book from the library because I wanted some new ideas for some healthy recipes for my family. The recepies are great and they are for the most part easy to follow and all of the ingrediants can be found in any local grocery store. That is a plus because there have been so many times that I have bought a cookbook but have had to shop in a specialty store just to find the ingrediants. Who has the time and money to do all that?
My biggest complaint in this book is the nutrition information listed on page 9. It states to use the following equation to calculate your daily calorie needs in order to lose weight. (your present weight x 7) and then the paragraph below states that you you weigh more then 300 lbs start by eating 2,100 calories a day and if you weigh less then 150 pounds, plan to eat around 1,050 calories a day. That is way to few calories and it is very dangerous to eat this low for weeks or months on end. Sure you will lose weight at first but you will also be starving yourself and as soon as you start eating a healthy amount of calories all that weight will come right back on. 1,050 calories is hardly enough to give the body energy to sit at a desk all day much less exercise as the book suggests doing in order to lose weight.
So use the book for the recipes but discard the nutrition information.
(1 stars) - Not for the Kindle Before purchasing this cookbook I tried to research how it would be laid out in the Kindle. I was not able to find any review, description or image of how the cookbook functioned on the Kindle. I was expecting the bookmarks in the cookbook to work similar to other books I have read and used including Holy Bible, New International Version, NIV. Much to my surprise the only links were in the Table of Contents and to find a recipe under a category like Meats I first had to go to Meats and then click Next Page until I found a recipe that I liked. I was expecting to click Meats and then have a list of links to recipe titles. Not functional at all.
Worse yet was the fact some recipes required a reference to another recipe and there were no links to the other recipe. You once again had to go to the Table of Contents, choose a category and then mindlessly click next page. I am going to by the paper back version.
(5 stars) - Love it! Absolutely love it. We have two small children who love the food! And my husband eats it with no complaints :)
(5 stars) - Great Cookbook!! I absolutely love this cookbook. The recipes are easy to follow and are definately budget friendly, most recipes contain things you already have in your kitchen. Also every recipe has the nutrition information so that you don't have to guess. The only bad thing is that the book isn't bigger.
(5 stars) - Easy Recipes that are Good for You - Yum! I like to cook, but admittedly I am not too adventurous with unfamiliar ingredients and don't have tons of cooking pans and gadgets. This book was perfect for me. The recipes are easy with ingredients I buy anyway. I have liked everything I have tried from the book. I like to cook a couple of dishes on the weekend and freeze them for during the week. I would definitely buy other BL cookbooks if they are like this one. My personal favorite is the Baked Ziti - yum!
