Great book, to find the easy way to rise a puppy and have fun!

(1 stars) - too authoritarian, don't waste your time.
I found the author to be very authoritarian in his view and advice. I got the sense that it was all or nothing. That if you failed to do one of his recommendations or do it at the wrong time, that you were doomed to have a puppy that would become a great problem later. Also advice such as take two weeks off of work to work with the puppy once you had brought them home is beyond the pail, especially given the current economic times. Do not waste you time with this book. Go get one of Ceasar Milan's books, you will be better off.

This is a great book to get BEFORE getting a puppy. I am a veterinary technician and I wish all our clients could read this prior to picking out a breeder/ puppy! It has many ideas to help avoid behavioral and other issues.

As it turns out I didn't get the puppy I was expecting, so I have more time to continue reading this helpful book. There is much to learn if you want to have a well-behaved dog for the rest of its life in your family. This book is a veritable font of instructions, tips, advice, and clues into how to lead your puppy. Since dogs require an alpha dog in the pack to be truly content, you, as dog owner, must take the reins, or your dog will take them for you, and you'll both be dissatisfied. It's amazing what a badly-behaved dog can make you do! Make the decision now to read this book and take charge of your puppy. Show him who's boss, and you'll both be better off for it. There is nothing like the devotion and demeanor of a great dog. The more people that follow this book's information, the fewer abused, abandoned, and unwanted dogs there will be. If you've ever been to an animal shelter you know exactly what I mean. This book will enable you to have a wanted dog.
