 (4 stars) - Lots of info, presented in a great and funny way.
I thought that this book was very well written. Not only do the authors have a sense of humor that makes the book regarding sometimes boring history and they make it fun and interesting. They also cut out a lot of history that does not semingly pertain to Art, they do sometimes give a readers' digest version of some events that are interesting to them.
I highly recommend this book for those who want an interesting, comprehensive account on European history.

Getting in touch with them is an annoying two step process. I tried to contact them as soon as I submitted the order, when I realized how long shipping was going to take. I asked to upgrade shipping because it was possible Europe 101 would arrive at my brother's house after he had left for Europe. They emailed back to me to say, "we are shipping it tomorrow [as scheduled]. It will probably get there before he leaves!" Probably! They didn't agree to change the shipping to priority shipping even though it hadn't been shipped yet. They shipped by a cheap method that didn't allow tracking. Luckily it did arrive a day or so before my brother left for Europe, but the credit for that is due to the post office not the seller.

Whether you are planning a trip or not, this is a delightful book to read, exceptionally well written and informative. Rick takes the most dry historical material and makes it entertaining as well as informative. I highly recommend this for anyone wanting to know more about Europe and its arts and histories.

It was a delight as well informative book to read.
Very pleasnt, with humor many times and enough historical information to not feel in a classroom but to have the big picture of times and changes of Europe along the years.

USE THESE TWO AS A BASIS FOR YOUR TRAVELS. RICK STEVES HAS ACTUALLY VISITED ALL THE DESCRIBED LOCATIONS, SO YOU FEEL THAT A FRIEND IS REVIEWING FOR YOU.
BUT, LOOK AT THE COVER OF THE MONA LISA. ANTICIPATION LED US INTO THE LOUVRE'S HUGE ROOM FOR THE PAINTING,AND, WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT!!!!!
IT APPEARED THE SIZE OF A POSTAGE STAMP ON A BLANK WALL ABOUT 15 FEET HIGH BY 40 FEET WIDE.
