I have been reading it to my [...] year old as part of our bedtime reading. He loves it. I think he is having problems grasping the size and distances, but to be honest, I do to.

(5 stars) - Can't stop begging for more!
My 4-year-old ADORES this book. He has been listening to chapter books and very interested in science for quite some time now. When I heard about this book, I knew we had to try it. We borrowed it from the library first, then bought it AND the sequel before we were finished reading it because he is learning so much. We read it to him before bed, and usually we can't get away with just one chapter. He can tell you more about physics at not-quite-5-years-old than I knew at age 20.

The pull-quote boxes and sidebars are chock-full of information and there are several sections of glossy, gorgeous Hubble photos as well. These books will be a treasure for many years.

(5 stars) - Inspiring for a future scientist
I don't normally write reviews but as my son is reading this book for the third time, I thought I should. My son is only 6 but loves this book. The first time he read it he skipped the glossy science pages and just read the story. The second time he read the science bits , too. Now he's reading it to brush up on his info on black holes so he can tell his first grade class about them. For me, I can't say that this book is the greatest story in the world, but it has inspired my son to want to know more and dream of being a scientist. When told about the Theory of Everything that both Einstein and Hawking have been working on but have not solved, my son replied that he had better study a little bit more so he could solve it. Thank you Lucy and Stephen Hawking. You've inspired the next generation of great thinkers. And yes, he used his own birthday money to buy the sequel, the Cosmic Treasure Hunt.

Haven't read the book myself, but my 8 yr old daughter read it and she absolutely loved it! Been talking about black holes all day.....We are looking forward to reading the 2nd book.

I ordered the two Hawkings books for my grandsons. He is a favorite author for my daughter, and they read the books to the boys, ages 6 and 9.
