Every unique chapter in this book is fantastic! It's like having a starter library all in one book. You can't find a better all-round book covering tube guitar amps (the only way to go) than this one.

My first amp was a small tube amp built into the case of my guitar--good ole' Silvertone. As long as that amp powered up when I hit the "on switch" I wasn't all that concerned over how it worked. But over the years I have become more conscious of the tonal qualities of the amps I have plugged into--and my discerning ears have established an affinity for quality tube amps. This book describes why a tube amp generates such a sweet sound and how the different components make that happen. Dave Hunter's writing style is perfect for the average guitarists who aren't normally electrical engineers. His "layman's terms" and stabs at humor make, what can be a fairly boring topic, into a very interesting and engaging book. I highly recommend this book to any guitarist that plugs his axe into an amp. I finally know what each component of my amp does to my guitar's signal, I have a better appreciation for amp maintenance, and I now know how to make informed decisions when buying a new or vintage used tube amp. This is an excellent book!

This is a great book, especially for people who are just starting to learn about tube amplifiers. It explains exactly how a tube amp works; the signal chain and its components. It explores different well-known amplifiers and what makes them distinct. At the same time, it dispells a lot of myths and brings the complicated (yet simple) world of the thermionic valve's place in musical amplification in an approchable text.
This book answered a lot of questions that I had, plus some that I hadn't even thought of yet, but doubtlessly would.

This was a great book for beginners. Had the perfect amount of detail. Never went too far in depth as to lose the reader. The tube amp build at the end of the book is fantastic! I built it and its sounds great but be sure to look for the errata online, some values are wrong and the schematic can be deceiving. After reading it several times during the amp build though, I find myself looking for more in-depth information why certain capacitors should be used or how some of the sections of the circuit work on an engineers level. All in all a great starting point for the beginner tube builder.
