Amazon.com Exclusive: Suze Orman's 2009 Action Plan

How to Prepare for the Unexpected

If in late 2007 you were told that over the next twelve months housing would crater to 20% below it's all-time peak, unemployment would rise from below 5% to nearly 8%, stocks would fall nearly 50%, and a gallon of gas would spike to more than $4 (and then drop below $2) you would probably have shrugged it off as just a whole lot of doomsday-scenario crankiness. But that's exactly what we all had to live through and continue to grapple with in 2009.

The lesson is that the unexpected can happen. In fact, sometimes a whole lot of unexpected happens all at once (see: 2008). No one can control external events, but you do have absolute control over the most powerful tool: your will to make the smart and right choices that will insure your financial security, no matter what happens. As I have said for years: Hope for the best, plan for the worst. If you plan for life's what if's there's no need to panic when the news turns bad. An emergency cash fund is your security when a recession causes rising unemployment. A long-term investment strategy that employs a mix of stocks and bonds makes it easier to get through scary bear markets; living within your means, rather than running up credit card and HELOC debt leaves you better able to weather financial storms.

My 2009 Action Plan is designed to make sure you are ready for the unexpectedthis year and every year forward. I most certainly hope things get better for us all, but in the meantime I want to make sure you have a plan in place that will protect you no matter what what ifs lay ahead.

Product Reviews

(4 stars) - 2009 Action Plan
Saw on Oprah show with Suze Orman and Oprah. Suze writes excellent financial advice which is usually right on the money. I watch her regularly on her TV show.

(5 stars) - Suze is Terriffic
Basic information and advice that every single person should read. Should be required reading in high school/college so the future might be better for the younger generation. Between Suze's books and her weekly TV show, it is not hard to figure out what is best for you.

(5 stars) - Book that answers questions in this crisis
With the economy and the stock market plunging, Orman's book is timely. In this book, she answers questions that many of us are asking right now relating to credit, retirement, the stock market, real estate, and much more. Orman advises people to:

* Make it a priority to pay off your credit card balances
* Make sure you have the right mix of stocks and bonds in your retirement accounts, given your age
* Separate wants from needs
* Push for a "mortgage modification" if your current loan is too expensive
* If your child is heading to college within four years and your college savings are in the stock market, you should begin to phase it out of the market, so that you are 100% out by the time he or she is 17.

Her advice is priceless. Schools do not teach it. People are on their own when it comes to money. If you are interested in finding out what caused the crisis, and what actions to take to improve your financial situation in the future, this book is for you.

- Mariusz Skonieczny, author of Why Are We So Clueless about the Stock Market? Learn how to invest your money, how to pick stocks, and how to make money in the stock market

(5 stars) - a great action plan
So many times, we don't know where to begin on a money management plan. This book takes care of that problem. Combined with a "mindset" book like Think and Grow Rich, you have everything you need to get total financial freedom.

Take it one step at a time and you'll get results. You'll start to see changes, small at first, which will become bigger and bigger. It really is amazing and it was quicker than I thought it would be.

Thanks to Suze for giving me a plan that works!!

(5 stars) - Suze Orman's books
Wonderful advise for any age group. I bought this for my daughter to give her a plan on how to get her finances under control. It also provides a guideline on how to manage your financial life. I recommend this book for your grown kids, or yourself if you don't feel like you are set up securely, financially.
